Mythic Commander Errata Designer’s Notes

By Kieran Street

With Mythic Commander having been out for over a year now, we decided that it was time to release the game’s first FAQ and Errata!

The official document can be found here.

But we’re going to go into some of the highlights below.

‘Enemy Units that are only Engaged by Unattached Hero Units may still perform Charge Actions.’

The intention behind Unattached Hero Units having a front facing in all directions was always to emphasise that a single Hero is more manoeuvrable and able to change their direction of attack more easily than a large formation of soldiers or a lumbering monster.

However, the idea wasn’t for an Unattached Hero to prevent multiple Enemy Units from being able to Charge. We feel this change will allow Unattached Heroes to largely remain the same while preventing them from being used to tie up multiple enemy Units at the same time.

Innately Magical…‘may be used to play up to two Spell Cards’, to: ‘may be used to play up to two different Spell Cards’

The intent behind this magical upgrade was to allow Mage Units to cast multiple spells but not intended as a means to cast the same Spell twice within one Round. Some of the Spell Cards can be quite powerful and this change will hopefully prevent Players from facing the same devastating effect twice in one Activation, assuming that the Mage also carries an Upgrade that lets them regain a previously used Spell Card.

Nothing prevents a Mage from using the Spell again in the next Round however, so prioritising an Enemy’s Mage Unit as a target might be a good idea!

Army Building

We’ve clarified within the FAQ how Civilisation Unit restrictions affect certain ranged Units available to the Attuned and Ancient Factions. While these Civilisations do have access to more ranged Units than others, both can take up to 5 maximum. This was intended from the outset, as while we want these Civilisations to provide a unique army building experience, we found during development that being able to field too many ranged options skews the gameplay away from battle lines clashing in melee and can also be a less enjoyable experience for Melee based armies.

We hope that you all enjoy the updates to the game. We also want to thank the community for all the feedback submitted for the game so far and want to remind players that any rule queries that they may have can be submitted via the official Modiphius Errata form, here.
