Aboard Spacedock, sitting in my corner office (though I guess I should call it an arced office since this station has no right angles), I’m reminded of the 2019 release of The Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook and how exciting it was to add a whole bunch of lore, species, and NPC stat blocks to the game line, that, at the time, was growing at a steady pace.
Now, following the release of the game’s second edition, the STA team and I are taking the opportunity to update Star Trek Adventures first edition material we weren’t able to include in the second edition core rulebook or supplements. If you missed picking up The Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook, let’s briefly review its contents.

The sourcebook opened with a summary of the state of the Galaxy in the early 2370s, then provided an overview of assorted worlds and various civilizations, including Betazed, Denobula, Tellar Prime, Trill, Bajor, the Cardassian Union, Ferenginar, the Tzenkethi, the Breen, and the Tholians. The sourcebook also provided 11 new playable character species, including the Arbazan, Arkarians, Grazerites, and Zaranites. Some of the species contained in the book are included in either the second edition core rulebook, or the new Species Sourcebook, now available for pre-order.
Ten NPC starship stat blocks are included in the book, as well as information on developing encounters in the Demilitarized Zone near Cardassian space, the Badlands, and along the Federation border. A total of 32 NPC stat blocks accompany the text about developing encounters and stories. Add to that a wide assortment of sidebars on various topics, and you have a wealth of great Alpha Quadrant information packed into 128 pages, all usable in your missions and campaigns no matter the time period in which they are set.
Nathan Dowdell, the 2d20 Systems Developer, revised the game components of this sourcebook that did not make it into a second edition supplement and compiled that information into a document. We now provide that document, for free!
If you haven’t bought the book yet, the digital edition remains available for sale. The second edition revision document will be added to the download package for the book as well as the Star Trek Adventures download page. If you’ve bought it, you should receive the free download right away. If not, reach out to support@modiphius.com and they will help you out.
I hope this updated information proves useful to you and your crew and helps enhance your Star Trek Adventures missions and campaigns. What material from The Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook do you plan to use in your games? What ideas or suggestions do you have for your fellow players and gamemasters? Share your insights with your fellow fans at the official Modiphius Discord!
