The new Star Trek Adventures supplement, the Allies and Adversaries Sourcebook, presents statistics blocks from a wide variety of non-player characters (NPCs) from species and organizations present in the Star Trek universe and from all across the timeline, collectively representing beings we suspect player characters are most likely to encounter in adventures and missions.

We were intentional in providing statistics for a wide range of customizable Minor, Notable, and Major NPCs rather than specific canonical characters. You may choose to use the stat blocks as written in the book, or adapt them by simply changing the name and any key mechanics to represent a canonical character. Other Star Trek Adventures supplements contain a variety of canon and generic stat blocks as well, and you’re free to mix and match as needed to fit your needs.

Each group of NPCs provided in the Allies and Adversaries Sourcebook includes a short summary of that species, their attribute modifiers, their species trait, and any special abilities or special rules are applicable to NPCs of that species. Each stat block can be used in any period of play; we were careful to present statistics usable in the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 32nd centuries and everything in between with minimal need to revise by era. As always, if you feel you want to tweak a step block to taste you are welcome to do so.

Included in the book are the following categories of NPCs:

  • Several Borg characters, including a Borg queen
  • A selection of Breen Confederacy / Imperium characters
  • Cardassians, including civilians and military (and a representative of the Obsidian Order)
  • The Dominion, including Jem’Hadar, Vorta, and a Founder
  • A wide variety of independent characters, such as pirate, mercenary, freighter crew, archaeologist, and vigilante, all of which can be adapted into a variety of specific species (such as a Nausicaan mercenary or a Denobulan freighter pilot)
  • Delta Quadrant representatives, including Hirogen and Kazon
  • Representatives from recent Star Trek series such as the Qowat Milat from Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek Discovery and the Furies from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
  • The Star Trek: Strange New Worlds version of the Gorn in a variety of types
  • A variety of Alpha Quadrant and Beta Quadrant representatives, including Ferengi, Klingons, Orions, Remans, Romulans, and Tholians

For those of you running non-Starfleet campaigns or who want more Starfleet and Federation NPCs in your games, the book provides a selection of UFP characters as well, including a range of Starfleet NPCs, a United Earth Defense Force officer from the 32nd century and a MACO from the 22nd century, and a Federation civilian, journalist, and ambassador.

The book also provides a selection of creatures to throw at your player characters, such as the Galardonian spider-cow, palukoo, trance worms, buhgoon, Tardigrade, and verugament. We also include a random table listing all the creatures contained in the core rulebook and this book to help gamemasters populate scenes and encounters with random creatures as needed.

In total, there are over 75 stat blocks in the book, all of which can be modified into an endless variety of NPCs for your missions and campaigns. In addition, the guidance on creating Quick NPCs gives you the means to create even more beings for your player characters to encounter.
