As we continue to celebrate the 60th anniversary of all things Star Trek, we’re enjoying fellow fans and gamers checking out Star Trek Adventures. If you’re new to the roleplaying game, welcome! You may not be aware of the free resources available, so I thought I’d put a short list together. 

Ferengi merchants might balk at free content, but we love it, and so do our fans. Hope you enjoy it as well!

 

A UNIVERSE OF FREE CONTENT

 

To access the free downloads, click into the downloads page. 

 

Note that your region may require you to click on the pop-up window to ensure you’re going to the modiphius.net site where the downloads page is housed, and not the modiphius.us site, which contains the US webstore.

 

 

Some of the free resources available for Star Trek Adventures include:

• PLAYER ADVICE: Housed on the downloads page, the player advice document provides information on forming a group, being part of an effective Session 0, setting up a campaign and your crew of characters, and tips on where and how to play a game session or campaign.
• SAFETY CHECKLIST: To assist you during Session 0 and while playing game sessions, the download page contains a safety checklist you can use to ensure all players have an opportunity to discuss what they want to and don’t want to see in game sessions, to help ensure everyone has a good gaming experience.
• CHARACTER SHEETS AND SHIP SHEETS: No RPG is complete without downloadable character sheets and starship sheets, and the download page contains zip files of the sheets useful to play the game.
• QUICKSTARTS: The downloads page also contains free downloads of the two first edition quickstarts and the second edition quickstart. You can download these to play through a full mission and get a taste of the game system in action. Each quickstart contains several pre-generated characters for ease of use.
• ERRATA AND OPTIONAL RULES: The downloads page includes errata files for both first and second editions of the game, as well as a selection of optional rules to use with the first edition if you have not yet switched to second edition or do not plan to do so.
• FIRST EDITION LIVING CAMPAIGN: The downloads page includes a link to the Living Campaign page, where you can find the sixteen adventures written for the first edition that introduced the Shackleton Expanse and all its wonders. The Living Campaign grew and morphed into the first edition hardcover release: the Shackleton Expanse Campaign Guide. All the original missions are available for free download.
• MISSION BRIEFS: If you need scenarios for low-prep game sessions, or just need ideas for more Star Trek-style stories for use in your campaigns, check out the wealth of free mission brief packs available for the game. The briefs are edition-agnostic and can be used with first edition, second edition, and with the Captain’s Log solo RPG. There are 31 mission brief packs available to date, collecting over 250 separate mission briefs across a wide range of topics!

 

EVEN MORE FREE CONTENT

 

There are two additional unofficial free resources for Star Trek Adventures that should be mentioned:

• STA CHARACTER BUILDER: The fan-built and fan-managed character builder app, currently administered by BC Holmes, is an outstanding resource all Star Trek Adventures fans should have bookmarked for use. Build a character, build supporting characters, and more! New functionality is added to the app regularly.
• CONTINUING MISSION: Managed by frequent Star Trek Adventures contributor Michael Dismuke, the Continuing Mission website contains a wealth of free fan-made materials made for the game through its various editions and for the Captain’s Log solo RPG.
