Having just finished another rewatch of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and the amazing episode “Series Acclimation Mil,” I’m reminded of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. That series featured incredible storytelling around Gamma Quadrant species, and showcased how their introduction into the franchise built up to the Dominion War. With all that in mind, I thought it was a good time to release the next Star Trek Adventures first edition to second edition conversion document, this time for the 2019 release of the Gamma Quadrant Sourcebook

With the release of the game’s second edition, we’re taking the opportunity to update the Star Trek Adventures first edition material we weren’t able to include in the second edition core rulebook or supplements.

If you missed picking up The Gamma Quadrant Sourcebook, let’s briefly review its contents. The book contains information on the state of the Galaxy up to the mid-2370s, when friction with the Dominion turned into all-out war across the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.

Chapter 2 contains lore about the Dominion, Dominion worlds, and other species and worlds within the Gamma Quadrant, along with an array of sidebars from a variety of perspectives. The Dominion War itself is discussed in some detail, along with advice about creating and playing characters before, during, and after the war.

Chapter 3 presents several playable species, including the Changelings, the Dosi, the Drai, the Karemma, Lurians, Paradans, Rakhari, Skreeaans, Son’a, Tosk, and Wadi. For those of you keeping track, the Changelings, Lurians, and Son’a are all updated in full in the new Species Sourcebook.

Chapter 4 presents an array of starship stat blocks for use in games, including Dominion and Son’a warships and a variety of Starfleet vessels from the Dominion War. There’s also a detailed sidebar about the so-called “Frankenstein fleet” for those who like to kitbash spaceframes.

Chapter 5 offers advice on running campaigns and missions in the Gamma Quadrant and during the war, and includes stat blocks for a variety of potential allies and adversaries, including Jem’Hadar, Vorta, Kai Winn, General Martok, Gul Dukat, Weyoun, and the Founder leader.

Nathan Dowdell, the 2d20 Systems Developer, revised the game components of this sourcebook that did not make it into a second edition supplement and compiled that information into a document. We now provide that document, for free!

I hope this updated information proves useful to you and your crew and helps enhance your Star Trek Adventures missions and campaigns. What material from The Gamma Quadrant Sourcebook do you plan to use in your games? What ideas or suggestions do you have for your fellow players and gamemasters? Share your insights with your fellow fans at the official Modiphius Discord!

And if you haven’t bought the book yet, the digital edition remains available for sale. The second edition revision document will be added to the download package for the book as well as the Star Trek Adventures download page. If you’ve bought it, you should receive the free download right away. If not, reach out to support@modiphius.com and they will help you out.

And with that, I’ve reached Shap Six. It’s time to move along home! See you around the dabo table.
