Representing the Star Trek: Prodigy Crew

If you’re like me and are an avid fan of Star Trek: Prodigy, you and your players may have wanted to represent the show’s characters, or a character inspired by them, in Star Trek Adventures. The series presents several characters of existing species, new species, and a mixed-heritage character, all of which can now be realized in the game with a combination of the core rulebook, the forthcoming Species Sourcebook, and a little creativity. Except for maybe Murf, because Murf defies easy definition.

Let’s take a look at the cast of characters and briefly note how you might go about creating them or similar in the game. Note that all references to ‘core rulebook’ are for the second edition core rulebook.

  • DAL R’EL: Dal is the most diverse character we’ve seen in the franchise to date, being a Human Augment with a mix of 26 other species within his physiology, in addition to latent psionic and esoteric abilities. Humans are in the core rulebook, while Augments are detailed in the Species Sourcebook. Clever selection of talents and application of traits should serve to represent Dal in the game.

  • GWYNDALA: Gwyndala, and her father, the Diviner, are Vau N’Akat, which are detailed in the Species Sourcebook. The heirloom Gwyndala uses alternately as a fashion statement and a weapon is also detailed.

  • HOLOGRAM JANEWAY: The steward of the U.S.S. Protostar and mentor for the young crew is the holographic version of Admiral Kathryn Janeway. Photonic beings (holograms) are detailed in the Species Sourcebook.

  • JANKOM POG: Jankom is the first Tellarite main character we’ve seen in the franchise. Tellarites, a founding member of the United Federation of Planets, are detailed in the core rulebook.

  • MURF: Murf is a unique alien life-form that would be best served by using the species creation rules presented in the Species Sourcebook. Murf is nigh-indestructible, which could be a trait as part of his Murf-ness, and inspiration could be drawn from the various shape-changing species offered in the Species Sourcebook.

  • ROK-TAHK: Rok-Tahk is a Brikar, a species introduced to the franchise via a series of novels by Peter David and first realized on screen in Star Trek: Prodigy. Brikar are covered in the Species Sourcebook.

  • ZERO: Zero is a Medusan, a species first introduced in the original series and detailed in the Species Sourcebook. You could choose to represent their change in form later in the series as a trait, or as a custom-designed talent.

Using the Star Trek: Prodigy crew as inspiration for your player characters should serve as a fun and creative exercise. There’s space for everybody in the Star Trek universe, and using the wealth of character options available to you by combining the core rulebook with the Species Sourcebook should serve to help you and your fellow players create any being you can imagine.
