Fallout Friday March 27

By Georgie

This is Enclave Radio, with your host – me! President John Henry Georgie. We’ve had a busy one this past month, so by presidential decree, let’s get into March’s #FalloutFriday!

Fallout: Wasteland Warfare’s New Edition

The new edition of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare is nigh! Samantha, Evie, Steve, and Jamie went into detail on the upcoming products and changes during the Twitch reveal stream, but I’m here to wrangle everything together so you’re clued in on what’s coming up.

What is the New Edition?

The new edition of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare is a ‘solo first experience’. You’ll be at the helm, leading your warband against the game. Enemies will act using an ‘AI’ system of predetermined behavior. The baseline mode of play for this edition is facing off against the wasteland in player-versus-environment (PVE) campaigns and scenarios. Cooperative play is still on the table, too; you can come together with friends across a single campaign map and explore the wasteland together.

The AI system from the first edition has been completely redesigned to make it the best possible experience for veterans and new players alike. Rules for the behaviour of opponents are easier to understand and implement on the tabletop than ever before.

You’ll play a campaign by exploring the ‘Overland Map’, which opens up new locations, enemy strongholds, friendly settlements, and other recognisable wasteland features! Exploring this vast expanse doesn’t have to be a lonely affair either; you can team up with a friend by joining your maps together or even sharing one. The Wasteland is at your feet; tackle joint scenarios and quests with another player, or fly solo as a lone wanderer. Whichever you choose, full campaigns bursting with storylines and sidequests await on a map that unfolds as you explore.

Main quests connect to form a campaign, but - to paraphrase the Ghoul from the Fallout TV show – you WILL get side-tracked by bullshit every single time, so prepare for sidequests galore! Panic not, though: your campaign progresses with each encounter, whether you’re completing the Main Quests of the overarching story or heading off-piste on a fun side mission. At the end of your campaign, you have to decide whether to retire your warband and start fresh or continue on further adventures with your existing one!

We know playing campaigns isn’t for everyone, so the new edition’s rules account for this with one-off encounters. Perhaps your current warband is struggling to fight against a Mirelurk Queen. You can develop some tactics to use in your campaign by running a one-off encounter against her, consequence free! If these one-off encounters inspire you to run a campaign, they can be linked together. The outcomes influence the story of your warband as you progress.

The new edition of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare also comes with ‘Battle Mode’ rules, where you play one-off combat scenarios against another player,, but this isn’t the default mode of play.

Unlike the first edition, the new edition of Wasteland Warfare focuses on a connected campaign driven by the main story quest.

What Mechanics Have Changed?

There have been a few changes to the core mechanics. Whilst they will feel familiar to Wasteland Warfare veterans, you’ll spot ample differences from first edition.

Battlefield Size

We’ve changed the standard combat encounter size to 2’ x 2’. This smaller play space makes it easier to play in a convenient location, keep track of everything on the board, and get into the action quicker! You can adjust the sizing for larger encounters if you want, but we’re confident it won’t feel too cramped.

The Skill Die Now The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Die

We’ve introduced some new changes to the dice too. The Armour and Special Effect Dice have been removed entirely, but Damage, Accuracy, and Armour Reduction Effect Dice all remain the same as before. We’ve also changed the probability curve of the dice to make them feel less punishing when playing. We’ve also changed the probability curve of the dice to make them feel less punishing when playing. You can use any dice from your existing collection for these.

Your Warband Will Revolve Around Your Hero’s Faction

You’re able to build whatever forces you like for free games or one-off encounters. In a campaign, however, you will choose from pre-existing lists of models that match the faction of your Hero — you’ll get some pretty sweet rewards too! You can recruit from other factions as you adventure, but you’ll need to form strong bonds with other factions before you can storm settlements with them or recruit them into your warband. Robots and some creatures of the wasteland can be recruited as pets or beasts of burden, too. For a few caps, you can have a Brahmin on side to carry the essentials, no matter your faction.

The Full Range of Minis Will be Supported

All the miniatures in the existing line will be supported, but the new edition is designed first and foremost to work with the plastic core boxes, which we recommend for newcomers to get a head start. The Wasteland Raiders, Survivors, Super Mutants, and Brotherhood of Steel are perfect starting points for your collection. Gathering some creatures together is also a great idea – especially those that connect thematically. If you’re fixing to make your Wasteland like the one seen in Fallout 4, for example, grabbing some Radstags, Deathclaws, and Mirelurks would be ideal.

Because of the changes we’ve made, first edition’s rules are NOT compatible with the new version.

Let’s take a closer look at the two new sets!

‘Into the Wasteland’ Solo Starter Set

An introduction to the core solo experience, set for preorder in Q2, fulfilling in Q3 2026.

The ‘Into the Wasteland’ Solo Starter Set is designed for players looking for the core solo experience. It comes with all the rules to play and a plethora of other goodies to get you started. Including all the rules to play in the core rulebook, the Into the Wasteland rulebook covers how to build custom Heroes, using creatures as enemies, and the system for generating thematic regions of the wasteland for you to explore.

The ‘Into the Wasteland’ Solo Starter Set puts you in the shoes of a Vault Dweller as they step out of the Vault for the first time! You can design them however you like; they could be the Sole Survivor of their vault, a Chosen One with a greater purpose, a Lone Wanderer scouring the wastes, or perhaps a brand-new take on a Vault Dweller – the choice is yours!

‘Warband’ Starter Set

If you’ve held off getting into Wasteland Warfare because of the new edition, this is the starter set for you. Set for preorder in Q3 and fulfilling in Q4 2026.

For the keen-eyed among you, the ‘Warband’ Starter Set looks and feels quite similar to first edition’s Two Player Starter Set. As before, this set gets you straight into the Wasteland, with PVC sets of the Super Mutants and Survivors warbands ready to face off against each other. There are three brand-new models in this set – and a Mr. Handy! The other models included are based on selected poses from existing plastic kits.

Vault Dweller Heroes Reveal

Here’s a sneak peek of the first new miniatures for Wasteland Warfare’s new edition – the Vault Dweller Heroes!

These multi-part plastic sprues of Vault Dwellers come in two sets, male and female, each containing a variety of options for armour and weapons, so you can watch your Hero evolve in real time! Beginning with their unarmoured Vault Jumpsuit, they can move on to leather and metal armor, and end up in a full suit of combat armour.

The ‘Into the Wasteland’ Starter Set will contain the male set of Vault Dweller Heroes, plus a bonus preorder companion. Both Vault Dweller Heroes sets will be available to purchase separately too.

What Else Is Coming?

Alongside existing plastic and resin kits, we’ll be kicking it up a notch by releasing ‘Encounter’ boxes to retail. These will contain pre-assembled PVC models themed by a threat or faction; a great option if you don’t have time to assemble or paint miniatures but still want to play.

These PVC models will be copies of our existing and forthcoming models in the range. There will NEVER be a model you can’t get in plastic or resin!

Release Schedule

Another change we’ve made moving forward is our approach to release waves. Instead of focusing on a place or group, we’ll focus on themes, with each one kicking off with a special box set of miniatures and rules. Sometimes other rules will release as part of a wave, and there will be plenty of miniatures in each, as you’ve come to expect!

‘Into the Wasteland’ is the theme of the first wave, and focuses on opening the Vault doors and heading out into the Wasteland for the first time. Players can expect to explore their unique slice of the Wasteland, take on deadly (and not so deadly) encounters, and build settlements. The first wave will be rules-heavy compared to later ones, but we think this is the best way to get you up and running with your favourites as soon as possible.

Will Everything from the First Edition be Covered?

Both of the new edition starter sets will have copies of both the Core Rules and Core Reference books. These contain all the rules you need to play as (or against!) the Brotherhood of Steel, Super Mutants, Survivors, and Wasteland Raiders! The books also include rules for some Robots, with further rules included later in the wave.

The ‘Into the Wasteland’ Starter Set also contains the Into the Wasteland Rulebook, which gives you rules for Creatures of the Wasteland, such as annoying Bloatflies or terrifying Deathclaws!

Compendiums

Paired with the two starter sets is the Unit Compendium. Releasing shortly after ‘Into the Wasteland’, the Unit Compendium is the first of two books designed to bring your first edition miniatures into the new edition. This will allow you to play as (or against!) the NCR, Caesar’s Legion, Enclave, Minutemen, Railroad, The Institute, Children of Atom, or Cult of the Mothman!

This will be followed in 2027 by the Wasteland Compendium, which contains rules for playing in iconic Wasteland locales from the Fallout series, such as New California, the Mojave, Capital Wasteland, Commonwealth, Appalachia, and more. The Wasteland Compendium also has rules for Nuka-World Raiders, Gunners, Trappers, and even the Zetan Invaders!

Our goal is for the majority of first edition factions to have new edition rules by the end of the first year of release. If you missed the stream and want to watch all of the reveals, you can catch up here!

Fallout: Power Play

A brand-new card game for Fallout, Power Play sees each player take control of an iconic faction as they compete for control over the Wasteland. Place Agents to gain influence and complete quests, and use Power Play cards to disrupt your opponents’ strategy and shift the dynamics in your favour.

It wouldn’t be Fallout without any shenanigans mixed in. A randomly drawn Wasteland card each turn brings unseen chaos to the game. You could end up instantly atomised, or have a Deathclaw popping into your base for a spot of dinner!

Fallout: Power Play is available now!

Videos from Modiphius

Make sure you fire up your Radiation King Televisions and get the Holotapes in!

Steve and Jamie go over how to set up a game of Fallout: Factions, as they prepare for the Super Mutants to face off against the Survivors. If you’ve wondered how to go about setting up a game, this video goes into detail on how to do it. You can watch here!

Community Spotlight

And now we’ve come to my favourite part: showcasing the stunning work you tag us in on socials! There are some incredibly talented individuals we’re sharing this month, so without further ado, let’s raise the woof.

Daniel from the German Tabletop Podcast, Magabotato, has CX404 and Maximus looking very fetching here!

Daniel’s Maximus and CX404 may have gone through a ruff patch during season 2 of the Fallout TV show, but they’re ready to fight another day here! We thought that the detail of the Brotherhood logo behind the deep scratches from the Yao-Guai Daniel added looked fantastic. His canine companion here, CX404, definitely had the situation in hand!

Ad Victoriam! Verm's Brotherhood of Steel are ready to bring order to the wasteland.

Verm’s Brotherhood of Steel is here to bring order! We loved the detailing of the metal on their armour; a heady mix of weathered and new. The Eyebot also looks fetching on the right, making this a force we don’t want to be on the wrong side of.

Gabriel’s Ghoul is brilliant! He’s us, just give it a little time…

Dogmeat may not be at his side, but The Ghoul looks ready to take on the town of Filly and beyond! We love the brown tones Gabriel achieved on his duster and waistcoat.

Taldur_Paints’ Raiders from the Pack and Operators are ready to fight for control of Nuka World!

Always vying for control of Nuka World, these troublesome raider groups manage to somehow keep a fine balance. Taldur_Paints captured the wackiness of the Pack and the ruthlessness of the Operators brilliantly here. We loved the colour schemes on the masks and the detailing on the weapons on these!

Thanks for swinging by for March’s #FalloutFriday! We had a ton of fun sharing everything in store for the new edition of Wasteland Warfare! What are you looking forward to the most? Shout it out on our Discord or across our usual socials. Until next time, don’t listen to the Super Mutants when they say they have a treat for you, it only ends badly…

Georgie (minus an arm) out.
