Can You Replay HAYWIRE MODERN?

Replayability sits at the very core of the fast-paced skirmish game HAYWIRE MODERN

How Decks Ensure No Two Missions Are The Same

Even though the game comes with a fixed set of scenarios, it uses multiple decks of cards that constantly reshape each mission.

Operations Deck

At the heart of this system lies the Operations Deck.

With forty distinct missions available, players can face objectives ranging from reconnaissance and sabotage, to hostage rescue and high value target capture. Some operations focus on stealth and intelligence gathering, while others demand aggressive assaults under time pressure.

There are four types of operations. Standard, Advanced, Campaign and Retaliation. Those types are mostly used within the modular campaign framework, but can also be randomly selected when doing a quick standalone game.

  • Standard and Advanced operations are the core of the mission your team will tackle in the Tour of Duty campaign.
  • Campaign operation is the ultimate mission of that campaign and is triggered after gathering enough intel points following other missions.
  • Retaliation operations are triggered based on player action; like losing a team mate or killing a civilian.

Each operation card defines an objective and a special setup for where to find that objective.

Infil Deck

How a mission begins is determined by the Infil Deck.

Instead of deploying in predictable starting zones, teams enter the battlefield through a wide range of dynamic insertion methods. A team might start concealed inside a covert vehicle near the objective, or fast rope from a helicopter, or even begin under enemy fire after falling into an ambush.

With thirty different infiltration options, the opening moments of a mission immediately set a unique tone and force players to adapt their initial plan.

Fog Of War Deck

Once the operation is underway, the Fog of War Deck pushes players in constantly adapting to new events. These 30 event cards represent the friction and unpredictability of real world operations.

Reinforcements may suddenly arrive, communications may break down, civilians may complicate engagement decisions, or unexpected opportunities might emerge.

Fog of War events are not constant interruptions, they happen from every one to six turns. This helps keep tension high, and forces players to react to evolving battlefield conditions.

Support Deck

Supporting all of this is the Support Deck, which provides players access to powerful tactical assets.

From reconnaissance drones and electronic warfare, to air strikes and suppressive fire, these thirty support options allow players to influence the battlefield at critical moments. Support options are randomly selected at the start of each mission, which means players must learn to work with the tools available, rather than rely on a single favored strategy.

Play A Different Game Every Time

What makes this layered system particularly effective is how these decks interact with one another. The same operation can feel completely different depending on infiltration conditions, available support assets, and unexpected Fog of War events. A carefully planned stealth mission can quickly escalate into a desperate firefight, while a chaotic insertion can still lead to a precise and controlled execution.

This modular design ensures that HAYWIRE MODERN offers exceptional longevity. Even after dozens of sessions, players rarely encounter the same combination of circumstances. Each mission becomes its own unique narrative shaped by both player decisions and the evolving situation on the table.

And this is without even accounting for the three enemy factions available in the game, or the wide selection of playable classes and units that we already covered. A recon focused team may prioritize stealth, long range precision, and careful positioning, while an assault oriented unit might rely on aggressive close quarters tactics and overwhelming firepower.

Different compositions naturally lead to different approaches, ensuring that no mission ever feels the same.

Ultimately, this is what gives HAYWIRE MODERN its lasting appeal. It is not simply about winning missions, but about experiencing the unpredictable flow of modern operations. Every deployment tells a new story, every plan must adapt, and no two battles ever unfold the same way.
